Introduction To Photography

Level: Beginners-Intermediate

Description: Learn the principles of photography and get the most out of your camera. It includes an introduction to Photoshop and other editing applications. This course is fun and exciting and will include eight evening classes and two field trips. It is aimed at beginners or those who have some knowledge and wish to increase their knowledge and improve their photography skills. Basic editing, sharing and enhancing your digital images. Learn your camera settings and best setting for different situations. Learn how to safely store and print your photographs.

Course Content: (Eight indoor sessions and two outdoor sessions)

1. Different types of cameras. Point and shoot, Bridge Camera, Digital SLR Cameras and Mirrorless Cameras. Understand the controls and features of your camera.

2. Principles of composition. Rule of thirds, leading lines, and framing.

3. Principles of exposure. Inter-dependence of ISO, aperture and shutter speed.

4. Using your camera and understanding settings such as shutter speed, aperture, ISO and white balance. Focusing, depth of field and capturing moving subjects.

5. Different shooting modes including manual, aperture priority, shutter priority and bulb.

6. Landscape photography. Composition, exposure, using manual settings, using tripod and using filters.

7. People photography and portraits. Use of artificial light and using outdoor light.

8. Introduction to Photoshop or other applications for basic adjustments to images, to include cropping, exposure, and resizing. Preparing your images for uploading to social media or printing.

9. Outdoor session around Dungarvan.

10. Outdoor session in Colligan Wood.

Practical task assigned at end of class each week and followed by a critique at the beginning of class the following week.
