'Well done to all the parents who took part and completed the 14 week H.S.E. 'Cook It Programme'. Mary Cunningham was the innovative and creative tutor who facilitated this programme. The parents had the opportunity for ‘a hands on’ cookery lesson every Tuesday for two hours. During the course they learnt many new and healthy recipes. The highlight of the course was when parents got to taste their creations and bring some home to their families. Mr Danny Cunningham and Mary Walsh (Adult Education Officer) presented the certificates and a cookery book to each of the parents and congratulated them on their achievement .A big thank you to all who participated and well done to the parents who catered for this event and to Nicola McCarthy for funding this course. To all parents and grandparents watch out for upcoming HSCL courses!
Waterford Open Days
6th year students attended the Waterford Open Days on Tuesday 11th September. Our first visit was to Waterford College of Further Education, where we had an opportunity to view the facilities and research courses that are not available locally.
After a general presentation, outlining the courses, entry requirements and application procedure for the college, students visited the different departments and courses they were interested in and talked to the tutors and students. Many of the 6th years were particularly interested in the hairdressing course and took the opportunity to view the salon and ask questions of first and second year students. This proved to be very useful as they got a lot of useful information and tips in preparation for the interview.
Following our visit to WCFE, we proceeded to Waterford Institute of Technology. The students were well prepared for this visit as the school liaison Ms. Claire Holden has recently visited CCN to talk to the 6th years about the college. The students used their time well, attending the various talks and presentations in the college, speaking to lecturers and students on the stands and taking a tour of the campus. Overall, the day was a great success and was great pereparation for students making their CAO choices
Careers Talk
Caroline Kearney from Cork Institute of Technology visited the school recently to speak to 6th years and interested PLC students about the courses available in the college. As usual, Caroline’s presentation was comprehensive and informative and she condensed a lot of information in a clear and concise way. We hope to welcome Caroline back in the New Year to speak to 5th years.
