Storyteller Niall de Burca visits the JCSP Library at Dungarvan College
Niall de Burca visited Dungarvan College on the 15th of November. All classes were treated to a storytelling session in the library over the course of the day and Niall amazed all of us with the ease with which he enthralled the students (and the staff!) with his remarkable story telling talents. His capacity to empathise with all age groups was remarkable. His interactive approach and zany sense of humour worked brilliantly.
The students were entertained with a wonderful presentation of legends, stories and folktales. It was a marvellous opportunity to enjoy the art of the storyteller from a renowned practitioner of this art. Students were treated to a remarkable range of tales -- funny, frustrating, lively, sad, ghoulish and downright absurd, all told with remarkable charm, judgment and superb timing. Some of Niall’s stories produced such an absolute silence in the audience that the legendary dropped pin would have been easily hear. Both students and staff alike are looking forward to Niall’s next visit.

Kev F. Sutherland visits the JCSP Library
Kev F. Sutherland, writer and artist for The Beano, Marvel and many other comics also visited the JCSP Library during November. Kev teaches pupils all there is to know about making comic strips and manga. He worked with two groups during the day, teaching students all the tips and tricks of the trade. At the end of each session the groups had produced a comic containing a strip by every single one of them. Each student took home a copy of their comic along with a caricature of themselves.
