LCA organise guest speakers
Recently the 6th LCA class organised to bring many guest speakers to the school to talk about a lot of Social issues that can affect our families and friends. November has been a busy month for the class. On Tuesday the November 6th, the local Garda came on a visit to the school, to talk to students about our local area. This talk was very good and students really enjoyed it. On Monday 11th November, we had guest speakers from Alcoholics Anonymous and this was great for the students to listen to how people can be affected by alcohol in their lives. Finally, on Tuesday, the 20th of November, we invited Tracey form the Youth Club to the school to talk to students about the effects of drugs. On behalf of Dungarvan College, I would like to thank all of these people who gave up their time to talk to the students and make them aware about the dangers of substance abuse.
Local St. Vincent de Paul visit
On Monday the 19th of November our 5th LCVP class welcomed Mr Enright the from St. Vincent de Paul Society to talk to the class about the work of St. Vincent de Paul. The class are organising a fundraiser in the next few weeks and would like to thank St. Vincent de Paul for their time. The class are organising Christmas Carol singing, a cake sale and a raffle over the coming weeks.
Student Council
Our student council have been busy in recent weeks, organising a suggestion box for all students to put their ideas forward, so that we can help improve the facilities and activities in the school for all students. Students have also been nominated to attend the Dáil na nÓg meeting which takes place on Friday the 30th November in Lawlor’s Hotel.
Waterford Animal Welfare visit Dungarvan College
The 3rd years were delighted to welcome back Mr Anthony Quinn for Waterford Animal Welfare to Dungarvan College. This was his third visit to the school. He gave a very interesting talk about his rescue of animals in distress. All types of animals have been helped from Seals to Giraffes. Gonzo, a very large Great Dane puppy and Bella the singing dog were very popular with everyone. We look forward to having Mr Quinn and the dogs back again in the future.
Science Week in Dungarvan College
To celebrate National Science week, the 3rd years made a trip to W.I.T. They attended a talk on Heat Energy. The lecturer performed many demonstrations and experiments on how heat is made and transferred. All students were intrigued and engrossed by the many activities especially when a balloon of hydrogen was set on fire with a loud bang!!
Here’s hoping many future scientists were stimulated by their trip.
