Description: Learn how to take the best possible care of your four-legged friends with classes covering nutrition, healthcare, basic training advice, grooming and first aid. A Catcraft class can be included for those interested in demystifying their moggies! If you would like a career working with animals, this course will also cover the various careers in the companion animal care sector.
Course Content: Indicative Content
1. Basic Anatomy
Demystifying diseases, common problems and how to prevent injuries/illness.
2. Diet, Nutrition and Exercise
Healthy diet, forbidden/toxic foods, food allergies.
3. Health and Welfare
Costs of pet ownership, preventing diseases, Control of Dogs Act explained.
4. Animal Behaviour and Training
Basic commands and how to teach them.
5. First Aid
What to do in an emergency and who to call.
6. Careers
Programme Learning Outcome
On successful completion of this programme, the participant will be introduced to best practice in animal care and be competent in their abilities to provide this care. They will also learn of the various career opportunities should they wish to gain further education in this line of study.
