Bee Keeping for Beginners 2025
Description:
Co. Waterford Beekeepers’ Association in partnership with Dungarvan College and WETB, is holding a Beginners’ course which will start in February, 2025. Topics covered include: the inhabitants of the hive, hive parts, keeping bees healthy, plants for bees, working with the bees, the importance of bees and pollinating insects for life on earth with much more. Participants will have practical sessions at the Co. WBKA Apiary, with bee suits provided, and experienced beekeepers on hand to show best practice. Three of the course providers recently qualified with Diplomas in Adult Education, at NUIG, with other experienced members of the IBA CLG, from around the country. There will be a €15 annual membership fee for the Co. WBKA and the IBA CLG. Payable to the tutor only and not to be included in the course fee.
Course Content:
Membership of the Co. WBKA, gives members access to regular hive openings at the Co. WBKA apiary. Queen rearing workshops are held during the active season. Co. WBKA is affiliated to the IRISH BEEKEEPERS’ ASSOCIATION CLG with members having access to regular webinars, quarterly digital newsletters letters etc. Several thousand bare rooted, bee friendly tree saplings are given out around the country to members free of charge for planting in early spring. These trees support honey bees and pollinating insects and we hope will be enjoyed by generations to come. Members also participate at local level, visiting schools, attending at Festivals and providing demonstrations and honey tasting events around the county. We also assist with swarm removals.

€150 (€15 ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP TO THE WBKA IS TO BE PAID TO THE TUTOR ONLY NOT INCLUDED IN THE COURSE FEE)
